Day One - Thursday 11th April

The tour begins at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. (Please see below for flight times from regional UK airports.)

12:30 - depart Amsterdam Airport Schiphol by private coach for The Hague

13:30 - arrive Hotel NH Den Haag, Prinses Margrietplantsoen 100, 2595 BR The Hague. You will be able to leave your bags in a safe place until check-in.

Located on the top few floors of The Hague’s World Trade Center building, NH Den Haag boasts fantastic views across the city to the North Sea. It is also just five minutes from the historic city centre, making it the ideal base for this tour. 

13:45 - welcome drink and a bite to eat in the hotel bar with your ECT Tour Manager

14:45 - meet your local guide and depart hotel for a guided orientation walk of The Hague's historic Old Town. Sites you will see include Noordeinde Palace, one of the three official palaces of Dutch royal family; the Renaissance-style Old City Hall, and the impressive ensemble of buildings that make up the Binnenhof, the seat of the administrative and legislative capital of the Netherlands. 

16:00 - arrive at the Mauritshuis museum for a guided tour. This small, world-class museum houses a formidable collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 17th century, including such iconic works as Vermeer's 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' and Rembrandt's 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp'. The museum is open until 18:00 so you will have time to explore at your own pace following the guided tour.

18:00 - return to the hotel independently, or with the Tour Manager.

Day Two - Friday 12th April

Breakfast at the hotel

09:15 - depart hotel and travel by public transport to De Broodfabriek Expo for Patchwork & Quiltdagen

10:00 - full day to enjoy Patchwork & Quiltdagen at your own pace

17:00 - return to the hotel by public transport, in the company of the Tour Manager

18:30 - 3-course dinner at the hotel's restaurant, The Verne

20:00 - talk/workshop with textile artist Herma de Ruiter at the hotel

Day Three - Saturday 13th April

Breakfast at the hotel and check out

09:30 - depart hotel by private coach for the medieval city of Amersfoort

11:00 - arrive at De Katoendrukkerij, a 17th century former fulling mill in Amersfoort for a 'De Katoendrukkerij'  block printing workshop with Nathalie Cassée. Fulling is the process of beating wet, woven woollen cloth to create a smooth, tightly-finished textile and, in the 17th century, Amersfoort was home to around six mills dedicated to the process. Today only this one remains. Nathalie will meet you at the studio she opened here and, after a talk about the craft of block printing, lead you through a workshop where you will make your own design to take home.

After refreshments and cake, you will join a local guide for a walking tour of the old quarters of Amersfoort, famed from 15th-19th centuries for its thriving textile industry and as the site of The Netherlands' first block-printing workshop, established in 1678 by two Dutch East India Company merchants from Amsterdam, Jacob ter Gou and Henrick Popta and another man called Louis d’Celebi.

14:00 - free time to explore Amersfoort and to visit some of its delightful quilt shops. One particular gem is the haberdashery store, Schwitzner. Dating back to 1900, the shop is treasure trove of fabrics, haberdashery and buttons.  

15:30 - depart Amersfoort by private coach for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

17:00: Arrive at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for return flights to the UK

Tour ends
