Nantes: Quiltmania's Pour L'Amour du Fil 2020
Our 2019 tour is now fully booked - if you wish to travel next year to see Quiltmania Pour L'Amour du Fil 2020, sign up to receive information, tour updates and early-bird booking!
Combining three days at Quiltmania’s renowned showcase of quilting, patchwork, embroidery and knitting with an expert talk and a guided tour of Nantes and its many fabric shops, this is an unmissable tour for needlecraft fans.
Our Pour L'Amour du Fil Tour Package includes four nights bed and breakfast accommodation and direct flights from the UK
Pour l’Amour du Fil is a must-visit annual treat for needlework aficionados. Meaning ‘for the love of thread,’ the show brings together over 120 exhibitors from around the world in a four-day celebration of all things thread.
The event always attracts an impressive roster of invited artists who come together to show their work and share their knowledge and passion. The line-up for 2019 is still in development, but previous names include Kaffe Fassett, David Butler, the artist behind modern folk brand Parson Gray, kimono expert Misao Wada and the author of Quilts from the Colonies, Margaret Mew.
With three full days at the show, our programme allows you plenty of time to see the exhibitions, browse the many enticing textile stalls and take part in the busy programme of talks, practical workshops and demonstrations. These need to be booked separately and carry an additional charge. There is more information here
This year, we have asked award winning quilter Rachael 'Blue Mountain' Daisy to reveal her inspirations and techniques in a special 40 minute 'in conversation.'
Located at the mouth of the Loire River, Nantes is a lively and innovative city with a rich cultural heritage. We have chosen city centre accommodation and made the third day of the programme flexible to give you plenty of time to explore.
The Château des ducs de Bretagne is not to be missed. With 500 meters of curtain walls, punctuated by seven towers, it appears to be a fortress, but walk into the inner courtyard, and you will find it is, in fact, a flamboyantly Gothic 15th century ducal residence.
The city’s other great architectural gem is the Cathedral St. Pierre. Built in the 15th Century and still an active place of worship, it boasts an impressive collection of exquisite, contemporary stained glass windows.
The Musée d’Arts de Nantes has now re-opened after a six-year refurbishment. Home to one of the finest art collections in France, the permanent exhibition contains over 900 works ranging from the 13th to 21st Century, so whether your taste is for Tintoretto, Rodin, Monet, Delaunay or Anish Kapoor, there is sure to be something here to delight and surprise.
Nantes lies on one of the most beautiful estuaries in the world and so we recommend that you make time for an 'Estuaire' boat trip. This 2 hour 45 minute journey is quite the best way to see the rich wildlife preserves, huge industrial buildings and maritime heritage sites that make up the region's unique landscape.
