Opened in 1925 as a refuge for passengers from the Orient Express, the über-stylish Esplanade Zagreb Hotel is an architectural gem. Its famous Oleander terrace was once described as “where the Balkans ends and where civilization begins”. Located within easy reach of key attractions such as the Cathedral and the Art Pavilion, the city’s most iconic hotel - long-established as a haven for A-List movie stars, politicians, singers and artists - reopened in 2004 after a complete renovation. It combines Art Deco glamour with every contemporary convenience. Your stay includes breakfast.

Zagreb is surrounded by outstanding wine country, and this lush green landscape surrounding the capital is known as 'Zagreb County'.
Some of the county's finest wines are produced in this region, including Bermet, an aromatic red wine made made, using traditional methods, from a selection of grapes, wormwood, fragrant herbs and fruit. Considered to be a special Christmas treat, Bermet was historically drunk only by those of high social status, and as such it was served in the royal courts of Vienna, Venice and Budapest. (It's even rumored to have been on the dinner menu on the S.S. Titanic.)
We will visit the Filipec Cellars, a family winery in Samobor which has been making Bermet for generations, where you will have the chance to taste some Bermet, as well as three other Filipec Cellars' wines; Cuvee Roko, Rose Tia and Grey Pinot. A variety of cheeses will also be served.
