Fleuramour Alden Biesen - group 20+ by coach
Meaning ‘Passion for Flowers’, Fleuramour is one of Europe’s most prestigious floral events and has been a highlight of the ECT tour calendar for many years. Set in the historic grounds of the National Commandery at Alden Biesen in Bilzen, Belgium and hosted by Rekad, publishers of Fleur Créatif magazine, the show takes place every September, attracting exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.
Fleuramour is a showcase for the best in floral art and every year the exhibiting designers are asked to respond to a particular theme. In 2016 for example, it was ‘Fire, Air, Water, Earth’, a subject that inspired European Master Certification students and instructors to create an extraordinary field of more than 5,000 David Austin wedding roses, while in 2017, the ‘Culture’ theme prompted florist Natallia Sakalova to transform the Church of the Commandery into an idyllic, sustainable suburbia.
The breath-taking masterpieces that are created in the 35 rooms of the 16th century castle and across its grounds are a celebration of flowers, colour and floral artistry. Annual highlights include the Court of the Commandery where, in 2017, the Russian floral designer Natalia Zhizhko built a life-size, fairy tale floral carousel; the chapel festooned with bridal displays and a fashion show featuring glamorous gowns constructed entirely from flowers. (‘Hat Day’, the show’s opening day, is a treat for fashionistas as everyone attending is invited to wear a hat made from flowers and prizes are awarded for the best. Please ask us to quote for your tour to include Friday.)
Fleuramour doesn’t simply aim to inspire, it also hopes to teach and there is an excellent programme of demonstrations and workshops where visitors can watch some of the world’s best floral designers in action. Previous years have featured demonstrations from internationally-acclaimed names such as Lana Bates, Moniek Vanden Berghe, Nadine Van Acker, Erika Oldenhof and, Carles Fontanillas, founder of Floos A Crafter’s Secret.
