A Deeper Dive
Bath is brimming with brilliant boutiques and inspiring independent stores and it’s wonderfully walkable too so brush off those bags and come shopping!
Bath Centre
Take a walk along The Corridor, (think Parisian arcade); browse the stalls in Bath Guildhall Market, the city’s oldest indoor market; discover jewellery old and new in Union Passage and Northumberland Place, and hunt for boutique fashion for body and home in Broad Street.
Walcot Street and Artisan Area
Affectionately known as Bath’s Artisan Quarter, The London Road and Walcot areas are the place to find fabulous vintage clothes, chic designer homeware, unique artwork and delicious edible treats made by stars of the city’s indie food scene.
Abbey Quarter
Bath’s iconic Abbey Quarter comes alive at Christmas. Discover local artisan makers selling everything from hand-knitted blankets and one-off Christmas decorations to seasonal bakes and designer jewellery, alongside music, mulled wine and twinkling lights.
Milsom Street, Milsom Place, Green Street and New Bond Street
Milsom Street is one of Bath’s grandest shopping streets (Jane Austen herself was a fan!) Here you will find Jolly’s, the UK’s first department store (now home to House of Fraser), lots of luxury interior stores and a good selection of independents. The elegant corridors and courtyards of Milsom Pace are home to a secret oasis of boutiques and restaurants, while Green Street, with its restricted vehicle access, is made for strolling and browsing. New Bond Street, at the end of Milsom Street, offers several unique brands and designer shops.
Upper City - George Street, Bartlett Street and Marlborough Buildings
George Street and Bartlett Street, just north of Milsom Street, are home to a cluster of interesting independent retailers. Marlborough Buildings is a pretty pedestrianised street lined with galleries, antique shops and individual boutique shops nestled between the famous Circus and The Royal Crescent.
Green Park Station
Once Bath’s main railway station, Green Park Station holds some fantastic covered markets and a creative collection of independent traders. Shop for the best local produce on a Saturday at Bath Farmer’s Market and Bath Flea Market on Sundays.
2022 sees the return of Bath's sparkling Christmas market - voted one of Europe's the 10 best. 170 wooden fairy-lit chalets, set against the city's stunning World Heritage surroundings will bring festive magic to the city centre.
Sustainability is important to the market which has an emphasis on local artisan, locally produced food and good quality products. Single-use plastics are not permitted and all stallholders must use environmentally-friendly biodegradable alternatives to common single-use plastic products such as product packaging, bags, bottles, straws, containers, cups and cutlery. This year the market will also feature ‘start-up’ carts for new small artisan sellers which will be available for a three or four day let in the heart of the market.
