Nantes is said to be one of the most desirable places to live in France and the city has become a popular and attractive destination for visitors wanting to visit a French city bursting with culture, art, excellent restaurants, historic buildings and attractions. Nantes enjoys the perfect combination of open green spaces and city life, after a concerted effort to create the perfect city environment by the authorities. There are over 99 parks and squares, 100,000 trees and Nantes boasts four ‘Natura 2000’ zones breeding rich biodiversity, on a city built on the banks of the Loire.
There are some really unique attractions in Nantes too, like Les Machines de L’Ile - a collection of strange machines – including a giant mechanical elephant! Another great suggestion for a visit is the Château des Ducs de Bretangne (Castle of the Dukes of Brittany), a fortress built in the late Middle Ages that houses the Nantes History Museum, which has been given the Musée de France quality award.
